Germany outgun Canada in an Olympic Ice Hockey classic | Day 14 | Winter Olympics 2018 | PyeongChang


Semi-Final no. 2 in the Men’s Ice Hockey tournament and the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang was between Germany and the double Olympic champion Canada and it became one of the best Ice Hockey matches at PyeongChang 2018.

Canada contributed to their own problems by losing two players to the penalty box – a gift for the Germans, which they accepted. They took the lead when a firm shot from Brooks Macek went beyond the reach of Kevin Poulin. Matthias Plachta made it 2-0 with a well-timed finish.

Germany’s third goal by Frank Mauer was also of high quality. Canada quickly reduced the deficit and Gilbert Brule swept the puck home to make it 3-1. But before long, Germany restored their three-goal lead. Plachta’s shot glancing off Hager on its way into the net.

Mat Robinson made it 4-2 and Derek Roy raised the result up to 4-3 – a grandstand finish.

Germany held on for one of the greatest wins in their history and will face the Olympic Athletes from Russia in the final. They had failed to qualify for the previous Games in Sochi but were now assured of either a gold or silver.The best performance on record by a German team in Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey.
