Ice Hockey Semi-Final: OAR’s keeper saves 31 shots! | Day 14 | Winter Olympics 2018 | PyeongChang


The first Semi-Final in the men’s Ice Hockey tournament at the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang was between the Czech Republic and the Olympic Athletes from Russia.

The Czech team had won all four of their previous games whilst the athletes from Russia lost their opening match against Slovakia, they’d since won three So two closely matched teams, and that was evident in the goalless first period.

After eight minutes in the second period, the Olympic Athletes took the lead by Nikita Gusev and a few seconds later it was 2-0. As the game entered it’s final period, the Czechs pushed forward, looking for a goal. But Koshechkin in the Russian’s net was in fine form. Whatever Czechs tried, the Russian’s goalkeeper proved equal to it.

With two minutes remaining the Czech coach took the decision to remove his goalkeeper to give the Czechs an extra outfield player.Almost inevitably, with the net empty. The Olympic Athletes from Russia scored a third – this time by Ilya Kovalchuk.

So 3-0, but the hero with full time was the Russian’s goalkeeper, Koshechkin, who’d managed to save 31 shots. And it’s his team who progress to the Olympic Final, whilst the Czechs now play off for bronze. Final score, Czech Republic 0, Olympic Athletes from Russia 3.
